Welcome to St Paul's Church of England Primary School and Nursery

Welcome to St Paul's CofE Primary School & Nursery, a warm and welcoming community-focused school nestled in the heart of Tongham. Our school is dedicated to providing an ambitious and experience-rich curriculum that inspires and nurtures every child.

As a growing school with a vibrant nursery, we are committed to supporting each child's journey from their early years through to the end of their primary education. From September 2025, we are excited to expand our offering by adding new KS2 year groups annually, ensuring continuity and growth for our children.

We entered a formal consultation in September 2025 on opening a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Unit. At present, this provision operates as a specialist bulge class for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). If the consultation is successful, it will be converted into a formal SEN Unit supporting children across the whole of the primary age range. This will secure long-term specialist provision at St Paul’s.

This development reflects our strong commitment to inclusion, enabling us to provide high-quality, specialist support for pupils with ASD both within our school and across the wider local community.

At St Paul's, we believe in the power of education to transform lives. Our dedicated staff team works tirelessly to create a nurturing environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We encourage curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning in all our children.

Central to our ethos is the principle of 'Learning in God's Love.' We strive to instill Christian values in our school community, fostering an environment where courage, compassion and community guide all our interactions. Our curriculum and school activities are designed to reflect these values, encouraging children to grow not only in knowledge but also in kindness and empathy.

Being at the centre of our community, we actively engage with parents, carers, and local organisations to enrich our children's educational experience. We pride ourselves on fostering strong partnerships that support the holistic development of our pupils.

We look forward to welcoming you to St Paul's CofE Primary School & Nursery, where every child is valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.

    Parent Governor Vacancies
There is a vacancy for two parent governors to serve on the school’s governing body. We are very keen to encourage parents and carers of registered pupils to nominate themselves to become part of our governing body. Parent governors are elected by other parents and are vital to our governing body. They share equally with other governors the duty of carrying out the governing body's wide range of responsibilities. Governors do not run the school day to day, as their role is at the strategic or policy-making level in the school. They ensure that the headteacher performs his or her responsibilities for the educational performance of the school and ensure the sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources. You do not have to be an expert on education to be a school governor, and we value the experience and skills that all governors bring to the role. However, you will be expected to demonstrate skills and experience that will enhance governance at the school, a commitment to undertake training and a willingness to engage in the life of the school and its strategic development, over and above merely attending meetings. The Governing Body would welcome applications from parents, any of with the following skills/experience are a bonus, BUT NOT A NECESSITY: • Special educational needs, (understanding/experience of). • Children’s & young people’s services or activities (in any sector) • Safeguarding, (understanding/experience of). If you join our governing body, you will serve for a four-year term and you can continue to the end of the four years even if your child leaves the school. Being a governor does take up time. There are 8 governing body meetings each year plus additional training and events you will need to attend. You will need to set aside time to be able to be an effective governor: time to prepare for meetings, for visiting the school, to undertake training and updating. If you would like to take the opportunity to put yourself forward as a candidate, please contact the school and request an application pack which will contain further information along with a parent governor election form. Please complete and return the election form to the school office, marked for the attention of The Clerk of Governors by Friday 17th October 2025. If there are more nominations than vacancies the election will be by secret ballot. If that is necessary, voting papers will be sent to all parents together with details of the ballot procedure. To find out more about what being a governor at this school is like, you can contact The Clerk to Governors at sgover@stpaulstongham.com, who will be very willing to answer any questions.
